FAQ

1. I've just gotten an email from Golden Key. Do I have to join right now?
The email you received from our BYU Chapter has an "add code" that is unique to you. That add code is only valid for the next year. You can join anytime in the next year. However, after that period has elapsed, eligibility will be recalculated based on current academic standing. Only the top 15% of each class are invited to join each Fall semester.

2. But...what does Golden Key do?

The BYU Chapter holds many activities. We try to do two a month, and our activities are aimed at building camaraderie, giving you opportunities to serve, and helping you develop professionally. Each activity is connected to one of Golden Key's pillars. These are some examples of previous activities:

  • Putting together over 75 birthday gift bags for a youth detention center here in Provo, while socializing and eating delicious J-Dawgs
  • Writing letters to isolated senior citizens across the world through Letters Against Isolation
  • Helping with set-up for the Provo Recreation Center Halloween Party
  • Learning how to make professional and compelling resumes

3. Tell me more about this $95 fee...
The membership fee is good for a lifetime of membership. There are no annual dues or fees. As a member, you will be invited to BYU chapter events and eligible to serve as a chapter officer. Golden Key sponsors regional and international conferences. As a member, you may be provided with a travel grant to help you participate. In addition to discounted goods and services from the Society's sponsors, you may also apply for several scholarships.

4. I'm going on a mission. I'm interested in joining Golden Key though, should I join now, or after?
With your email you received a unique "add code" which allows you to join the Honor Society. This code will expire at the end of the year. That does not mean you won't receive another invite email after your mission, but that will depend on your standing at that point (if you are still in the top 15%). Either way, once you join, you are always a member and cannot be removed from the Honour Society.

5. In light of the Covid-19 restrictions, will we be having any events on campus?
As of right now, we are back to hosting in-person events on campus this semester, but we’re monitoring the situation and will keep you updated!

6. How can I keep up with Golden Key?
Before and after you have been admitted into the Honor Society, you can follow Golden Key on Instagram at @byugoldenkey and on Facebook at the BYU Golden Key page. After admission into BYU GK, you will also receive monthly communication about scholarship opportunities, activities, and more through our email newsletter!
